Congratulations Suzie Miller on the success of your play Prima Facie. I had the pleasure of attending “In conversation with Suzie Miller and Andrea Durbach” at UNSW yesterday evening. Co-hosted by the School of the Arts and Media and The School of Law and Justice, the event was a great success.
The packed house was treated to an insightful look into the life and work of this brilliant playwright and human rights lawyer, and to an engaging reading by a former student of the School. Suzie had us all cringing with despair at how women suffer the injustice of the justice system, but offered some hope at the end: her expertise as a lawyer and writer exposing weaknesses in the system may have instigated, she said, a change in legal practice. It was a telling reminder of how significant literature is, and how a story well told by an expert in the field can have a direct impact on social justice.
